Squirrels share a lot of the same physical qualities that we can find in most other rodent species. That means their front teeth never stop growing. It is a trait that leads to gnawing behaviors to keep them from eventually pushing into the opposite jaw.
These animals store food for the winter, but that does not mean they prefer to use their stash. You can find them stealing food from others, hunting down hidden caches, or digging through up to a foot of snow to discover what they want. Some of them even bury small amounts of food to throw others off of the trail of their preferred storage location.
We can thank squirrels for the oak trees that grow so proficiently around the world. When they bury food, it does not always get found when spring comes back. The buried seeds eventually sprout into trees that become new food resources!
