Flamingo Webcams
These wading birds can grow up to five feet tall. Most people can recognize them by their pink coloration and how they stand on a single leg when resting. When a flamingo bends its leg, what you see them using is their elbow joint.
An adult flamingo can have a wingspan of up to five feet when fully grown.
The unique color of the feathers found on flamingos is due to what they eat. Algae, crustaceans, and shrimp are their favorite foods, which means the pigment in those items contributes to their hue.
Flamingos strangely eat their food. They turn their heads upside-down to filter food from the water. That means each bird holds its breath while feeding.
Only six species of flamingos are known to exist. They primarily live in mangroves, shallow lakes, or sandbars in colonies that can total more than one million individuals. These birds have homes on every continent except Antarctica.
