Ducks have a unique circulatory system that works to keep their feet warm in all weather conditions. It is the reason why you can see them swimming in icy ponds when other birds won’t go near the water.

These birds are one of the few in the world that can change genders. Although scientists don’t know why it happens, this outcome tends to happen when too many drakes or hens are in a flock.

The feathers on ducks have a wax-like coating and intricate patterning to create a waterproof layer. They can dive underwater to significant depths without getting their under-feathers wet at all. A spring molting event renders them flightless for a time, which means this trait enables them to keep hunting.

All ducks eventually have feathers that turn white as they get older. Although a white-colored species will stay that way, older adults with dark feathers develop light spots as they reach senior status.

This page contains several duck webcams located at zoos and private habitats around the world. See wild and captive ducks eating, swimming and more.
